U.S. Department of Commerce Reviews Steel Nails from Korea

Estimated reading time: 3–5 minutes

The U.S. Department of Commerce has published the preliminary results of its review on steel nails imported from the Republic of Korea. The review covers the period from July 1, 2024, to June 30, 2025. The Department’s preliminary findings indicate that the companies involved sold steel nails at prices below the normal value in the United States.

The review particularly focused on two companies: Je-il Wire Production Co., Ltd. and Korea Wire Co., Ltd. Je-il was found to have a dumping margin of 3.07%, while Korea Wire’s margin was zero, indicating they sold nails at fair value.

The Department of Commerce has decided to rescind the reviews for three companies: Inmax Industries Sdn. Bhd., Jinsco International Corp., and Peace Korea Co., Ltd. This decision was made because there were no suspended entries of nails from these companies during the review period.

The Commerce Department uses certain methods to determine how much companies must pay as antidumping duties. If the rates are found to be minimal or zero, then those companies won’t need to pay any penalties.

For companies not individually reviewed, they get assigned the same rate as one of the main companies reviewed. In this case, they will be assigned Je-il Wire Production Co., Ltd.’s calculated rate of 3.07%.

Public comments are invited on these preliminary results. Interested parties can also request a hearing to discuss their concerns or suggestions.

After examining any comments from interested parties, Commerce will decide on the final results. This decision will affect future shipments of steel nails and how much companies will pay in duties when they bring these products into the United States.

The Department of Commerce is committed to ensuring that trade laws are followed and that businesses operate fairly and transparently. The final results of this review will be out soon, impacting how steel nails from Korea are handled and taxed in future.
