U.S. Department of Commerce Finds Tubular Goods from UAE Sold at Unfair Prices
Estimated reading time: 4–6 minutes
The U.S. Department of Commerce has made a preliminary decision about certain oil country tubular goods, also known as OCTG, from the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Officials from the department have found that these goods are being sold at prices lower than fair market value in the United States. The investigation considered sales during the period from April 1, 2025, to March 31, 2026.
According to the Department of Commerce, products like oil well casing and tubing from the UAE are being sold at prices that hurt U.S. businesses. These are hollow steel products used mainly in drilling and are made from both carbon and alloy steel.
Two companies named in the investigation, Universal Tube Industries FZE and Ajmal Steel Tubes and Pipes Industries, LLC, have not been selling at fair prices. Ajmal Steel Tubes and Pipes Industries, LLC are reported to have a dumping margin of 68.88%, and the combined entity of Universal Tube and THL Pipe and Tube Industries LLC has a dumping margin of 61.45%.
As per the law, the government can ask for cash deposits to balance this unfair price advantage. The companies mentioned will now need to pay a deposit equal to these margins on new imports to the U.S.
All other companies from the UAE exporting similar products to the U.S. will face an average deposit rate of 68.23%. This measure is in place to prevent harm to the U.S. industry and ensure fair competition in the market.
There will be a time for public comments and further investigation. A final decision is expected in about 75 days. The outcome will guide whether these measures become permanent. This ruling shows how the U.S. is making efforts to protect its industries from unfair international trade practices.
Interested individuals or parties wanting to participate in the process can submit their views on the investigation. Decisions like this aim to sustain fair market conditions for manufacturers and companies in the United States.
