Estimated reading time: 1–7 minutes
On November 3, 2026, the U.S. International Trade Commission (USITC) announced the start of an investigation into the importation of certain extrusion-coated magnet wire. This investigation stems from a complaint filed on September 29, 2026, by Essex Solutions Inc. and Essex Solutions USA LLC, both based in Atlanta, Georgia.
The complaint alleges violations of section 337 of the Tariff Act of 1930. The allegations suggest that extrusion-coated magnet wire has been imported into the United States in violation of certain patents. These include U.S. Patent No. 8,847,075, U.S. Patent No. 9,224,523, and U.S. Patent No. 10,210,966. The complainants assert that these imports infringe on their patent rights.
The USITC received a supplemental complaint on October 13, 2026. The complainants seek a limited exclusion order and cease and desist orders against the accused products. The Commission began the investigation process on October 29, 2026.
The products under investigation are extrusion-coated magnet wire. These products have an outer layer made from thermoplastic resin. The investigation aims to determine whether the importation and sale of these products violate U.S. patent laws.
The entities accused in this case are Wellascent Electronic (Ganzhou) Co., Ltd., based in China, and Wellascent Technologies USA LLC, located in Grand Prairie, Texas. They are alleged to have violated section 337 regarding the importation and sale of these products.
The Chief Administrative Law Judge of the USITC will appoint an Administrative Law Judge to preside over the investigation. The Office of Unfair Import Investigations will not participate as a party in this investigation.
The USITC seeks to create a complete record to review all relevant factors concerning the domestic industry. Responses to the complaint must be submitted within 20 days from the service date of the complaint and notice of investigation.
Failure to respond within the given time may result in a default decision, potentially leading to an exclusion order or cease and desist order against the respondents.
The information about the complaint and investigation can be accessed electronically on the USITC’s electronic docket or by contacting their office directly.
